You betcha!
As of September, there were 47,710,324 people signed up for food stamps. Considering that there are an average of two children per family and the number above represents the parent(s), there are about 95,420,648 total people receiving the benefit. Given the total population of about 300 million, roughly 1/3 of the U.S. population are on food stamps.
There are 4.5 million people currently on welfare.
You can earn up to $12,000 per year and still remain eligible for welfare.
Total Number of U.S. States where Welfare pays more than an $8 per hour job is 40. ($16,000/year)
Number of U.S. States where Welfare pays more than a $12 per hour job is 7. ($24,000/year)
Number of U.S. States where Welfare pays more than the average salary of a U.S. Teacher is 9. ($44,000)
So, in 9 states, you could pull in $44,000 per year from the government and still have a $12,000 per year job. That's a potential $56,000 a year of total income, equivalent to a $28 per hour job.
There are 21.7 million people under 65 on social security.
There are 40 million people over 65 on social security (and they richly deserve it) with more and more baby boomers retiring over the next 12 years.
More than 123.65 million people rely on medicaid.
More than 140.12 million people rely on medicare.
More than 3.1 million people in section 8 housing.
Then we have Obamacare on it's way, affecting EVERYONE!
Our founding fathers did not envision any of this.
Do YOU think we can continue at this rate and NOT crash the economy???
